PHILOSOPHY

The Whole You: Body-Mind-Spirit

Well-being encompasses more than just the health of our physical body. When our emotions are out of control or our mind is bombarded with obsessive thoughts our overall health is compromised. Research is supporting the strong and reciprocal relationship between our health, our thoughts and  feelings and behavior. One of the primary keys to health is to create balance in our life by nurturing our wholeness: mental, spiritual and physical. The body often then rewards us by healing itself. The curriculum, activities and peaceful setting offered by Manitou Health Institute are designed to address a sense of wholeness.

Body

You can regain the energy of your younger self!  Taking proper care of your body is essential for this to happen. Adequate nutrition from whole, plant based foods and moderate exercise, especially outdoor activities is key to building energy and releasing your own inner healing abilities. The nutritious Manitou meal plan and the activities offered make eating well and exercising fun and easy. Additionally, our curriculum lectures will help you understand the research behind these concepts and provide you with tools to continue these practices at home.

Mind

Age may impart wisdom, but it can also reveal a general decline in mental clarity. Less than optimal mental health is often linked to poor diet, environmental toxins, mental clutter, negative thoughts and toxic emotions. Our educational sessions address ways to improve mental health. In our nutrition course, we reveal how brain-boosting foods can increase cognitive performance. In our sessions on relaxation and stress management we offer additional strategies to get your brain back on track.

Spirit

“We are not human beings in search of a spiritual experience. We are a spiritual beings immersed in a human experience.” -  Teilhard de Chardin

A stay at a Manitou Health retreat offers an escape from the stresses and demands of daily life. We offer you an opportunity to reconnect with yourself through a scenic environment and peaceful state of being. You may find that identifying life goals and tuning into your inner voice are natural consequences of staying at MHI. We offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenic outdoors during free time and through organized activities. We also provide sessions on guided meditation and relaxation. Our goal is to create an environment that promotes peace, serenity, and healing.

Taking it Home
We realize that applying these concepts back in "the real world" can be difficult. This is why we teach about easy and practical ways to achieve optimal health despite busy lifestyles.  Educational handouts are provided to take with you after your stay ends.

Take time to educate yourself about matters of health.  Knowledge provides empowerment.  - Kathy Vilendrer
